Planning and Deck Building with Mycelia
Mycelia, from Ravensburger Games, is a cute mushroom themed game where players work to clear their personal game board of dewdrops. In this game each player has a personal deck and will play cards from there deck to take actions, gain cards, and earn points. Mycelia is an easy game to learn and play and it has an advanced mode that adds more complexity to the game for more advanced gamers.
The goal of Mycelia is simple yet can be quite challenging to achieve. As what you can do on your turn will depend upon what cards you have in your hand you as a player need to be able to adapt and adjust your strategy as you go. As the starting deck is only six cards it is reliably easy to know what cards are coming up next. As you gain cards this can become more challenging though if you want to practice your memory skills it can help you with choosing how you will go about trying to play the game. Further, as the market where you buy cards is a common market you have to be ready to change plans if another player busy the card that you are planning on buying.
As with many strategy based games Mycelia rewards players who are able to adapt and change their strategy as the game progresses. Further how you play the cards and how the cards interact with one another can add other methods of creative problem solving and using mechanics in ways that might not be so obvious. The game rewards creative use of resources and adaptive planning. Any who struggle with such skills might find this game not only fun but helpful in practicing these skills.
This is a game that will be a great addition to your shelf and I recommend going to your local game store to give it a play and to hopefully add it to your collection!
